Back to Near-Term Repairs and Projects

In December 2009, after six years of planning and saving, there were sufficient funds to begin our window replacement project. At a cost of over $45,500 of private donations, all the windows on the west side of the K - 4 wing of the building were replaced with double pane, energy-efficient windows. Not only has this greatly enhanced the learning environment in the affected classrooms, but the consumption of heating fuel has been dramatically reduced. In the Fall of 2012 we were informed that the Grant County School District was given the opportunity to apply for grant money for facility improvements in its schools. The Seneca School was told that it was eligible to receive part of this grant money and the amount would be dependent upon how much money the School could come up with.

The Foundation was in a position to commit $10,000 and with generous contributions to the cause in the amounts of $3,000 from Tremaine and Gail Arkley and $7500 from an anonymous donor, the total amount raised on behalf of the school was $20,500. The grant match was 35% of that amount bringing the total to $27,675 available to purchase and install 18 new windows. All of the old windows in the basement floor of the original school building were replaced in March of 2013. Click each of the thumbnail photos below to see them in full size. With half of the funding provided by donations from the PTA and half from the Grant County School District, this Summer the school completed its facelift with some long-time needed exterior repair work and a new coat of paint. As you can see from the photos below, the school has not looked this good for nearly 50 years. Without the hard work of the members of the PTA with fundraising events and soliciting individual dontations, this could not have happened. A great debt of gratitude is owed to the Seneca PTA and the local community for making this happen.
